UPDATE 10:55 p.m. – Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan has released the name of the Georgia Power contract worker who drown Tuesday afternoon at Lake Oliver Dam.

Bryan says Alex Paxton, a scuba diver, was pronounced dead at 2:40 p.m. at Columbus Piedmont Regional Hospital.

Paxton, age 31, was from Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina. He had worked for Georgia Power for 12 years.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – A Georgia Power contract worker has died while working at Lake Oliver Dam.

According to Georgia Power representatives, the contract worker was doing underwater work at the time of the incident.

The worker was taken to the hospital after being recovered from the water. His name has not been released.

Representatives say Georgia Power is working with the contract company to determine the cause of the incident.
